Fall Semester 2026: US and Global Governments - Instructor: Ms. Dawn
Description TBA

Spring Semester 2027: Mock UN - Instructor: Ms. Dawn
All students will participate by taking responsibility for one of the countries selected by our class. Which country they are assigned will be chosen at random - to keep things as fair as possible. Their teacher will retain control of one of the world's super powers, to make sure everyone stays on track and to be able to moderate situations when needed. The students must accept each country's current form of government, current leaders, religions, cultures, population, etc. as that country factually is in the year 2027. They are allowed to try to bring about changes of these things and more throughout their assigned countries, if they so choose. Popular opinion of their country's citizens will come into play when they try to bring about change. And the opinions of their allies and enemies can be an influence as well.
Each week, students will post on Moodle, in a group class thread, what is happening in their country that week (protests, new government party groups, environmental concerns, holidays, celebrations, outside or inside threats, etc.), these can be fictional and created by the students, but must be realistic in content. For example a new political party will not be able to rise to popularity in one week or a monarchy will not be abolished in one week, etc. The students must use long-term thinking and strategy to bring about major changes, and sometimes even minor changes, depending upon the power of their citizens and their place on the world stage. These weekly occurrence postings will help inform discussions and requests from nations when the UN meets each week in class.

Students will also have to navigate some surprise scenarios given out by the teacher. For example, a natural disaster, incursion, war, new elections, etc. may occur in certain parts of the world which will require those affected and those considered allies (or enemies) to react to, and figure out how to navigate, on a global stage. Students will also be allowed to try to instigate or influence other countries with actions or strategies of their own!

They will be doing all of this while managing their country's economy, health, political divisions, citizen concerns, food and resource needs, and the global position on the world stage. Let the games, or world domination, begin!

**There will be a 15 minute snack/lunch/recess break after each class period.**
